Church History

Picture
The first church service of the Shekinah Tabernacle Gospel Church was held in the Chapel of the Paul Robeson Academy located at 2701 Fenkell Street in the City of Detroit, Michigan on December 7, 1997, with about 50 family and friends in attendance.  The first pastoral message was entitled, “Mama’s Broken Table”.  The Scripture text was from Saint Luke 4:16-19. The church was incorporated in the State of Michigan in 1997 and is recognized as a Michigan Ecclesiastical Corporation.  In addition, the organization was granted 501c3 status by the Internal Revenue Service in 1998.
Over the next two years the ministry held Sunday worship services at 10:00 AM and Thursday bible study classes at 6:00 PM.  Initial members of the ministry came from five families.  During those early years the ministry conducted or participated in a number of activities such as; Prayer Breakfasts, Meals-on-Wheels, Bible study, and monthly men and women meetings held the third and fourth Saturdays respectively.

The potential for the church is tremendous and we look forward to our second decade of service to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and to the community.

A Growing Church

Due to the growing needs of the church congregation and the unavailability of the school's chapel during needed church times the congregation actively sought a permanent location.   In 2001 the church acquired property at 16900 West Chicago and moved to the facility in March 2001.  Reverend Daryl Redmond officiated at the opening service and dedication of the new home of Shekinah Tabernacle Gospel Church.  As the church grew, it began to establish itself as a recognized organization in the community.  Since its move to the 16900 W. Chicago location the church has sponsored many activities in the community such as; community picnics, holiday food baskets to the community, health fairs, a community computer usage program, healthy eating programs and support for those seeking jobs.
